Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Publishes Statistical Reports

Thursday, September 23, 2010
Washington, D.C.

The DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner recently published several statistical reports on specific types of deaths. First, two reports were released to homeless organizations, to include: 1) deaths of homeless persons in calendar year 2009; and  2) “hypothermia” deaths in the District between calendar years 2005 and 2010. Second, a report on the number of decedents that undergo “public disposition" was released to funeral directors.

Public Disposition is the cremation or burial by the District of remains that are unclaimed for over thirty days. These reports provide demographic information (i.e., gender, age and race) that may assist these organizations in focusing the assistance they provide to District residents.
