The OCME has a unique relationship with a counseling service to provide onsite grief counseling to family members who come to identify their deceased loved ones. This counseling recovery program provides support to families in the aftermath of death through counseling and support groups, children’s services, training and education. The counseling service provides for the following:
- Intervention in the cycle of violence by empowering grieving children and their families to cope with their anger and grief following a sudden or traumatic loss
- Counseling and recover services are accessible by every family that enters the DC OCME (free-of-charge)
- Continued grief counseling support is available through the counseling service, if requested.
